We have a proud history

Our History

The Narre Warren Junior Football Club has operated for many years under the umbrella of the senior club in the South West Gippsland League. In 1974, it was decided that the senior and junior clubs should become new identities, thus the NWJFC was formed in 1975.

The club’s first president was Mr. Pat Sweeney, and the club continued to play at Highway Oval (Narre Warren Lifestyle Centre). In 2000, the club made the move to Sweeney Reserve (named after the first president). It was a welcome change from the very primitive facilities at Highway Oval; we now had amenities to match any junior club in Melbourne.

In the 2000 season, the club fielded 13 teams (7 made the finals). In 2008, the club had 18 boys’ teams and possibly 2 girls’ teams. This led to a total of over 450 happy kids playing football weekly.

We are also very proud that we have produced some of the stars of the AFL: Brendan Fevola (Carlton), Trent Croad (Hawthorn), Chris Newman (Richmond), Adam McPhee (Essendon), Steven Salopek (Port Adelaide), and Andrew Newman, just to name a few.

Brian Kennelly (1964 Melbourne premiership), Brett Evans, and Albie Smetts also played in the AFL (VFL).

The club has also produced many players who went on to play for the Narre Warren senior club. Many of the premiership sides of 2006–2008 included past NWJFC players.

In 2009, the tradition continued with Tom Scully (1) and Ryan Bastinac (25) being drafted into the AFL by Melbourne and North Melbourne, respectively.

2024 SEJ Best Conducted Club

We were excited to be awarded the South East Juniors Football League Best Conducted Club for the 2024 Season.

This award is a testament to all the dedicated volunteers who make our club a success.

We were also very proud for one of our players to take home two awards at the South East Juniors Awards night.

"The mighty magpies we’re from Narre Warren"

Our Club song is sung loud and proud to the tune of the Richmond Football Club Theme Song

Oh, we’re from Narre Warren

The mighty magpies we’re from Narre Warren

In any weather, you will see us with a grin

Risking head and skin

If we’re behind we will never mind

We fight and fight to win

Cause we’re from Narre Warren

We will never weaken till the final sirens gone

Like the magpies of old

We’re strong and we’re bold

Cause we’re from Narre

Black and the White

We’re from

Narre Warren!
